Meet The Scene Ball 2019

Come and meet the whole scene!
The Meet The Scene Ball is always a highlight of the year and a great opportunity to meet everyone involved in our Sydney scene. It’s a favourite Swing Patrol tradition, as we welcome newcomers to our community of dancers and celebrate with a fabulous Ball. Join teachers and students from all of our venues, catch up with friends and make new ones. And what better time for a great big party than on the eve of World Lindy Hop Day, the birthday of swing dance pioneer, Frankie Manning!

* live swing band: Kate Wadey’s Presidential Holiday

But wait, there’s more … Dance Cards: everyone will be issued with a Dance Card, and your aim is to fill out your card by dancing with a range of people from different venues. A great way to meet and dance with lots of new people, for strangers to become friends, and to get in the Dance Card Prize Draw to win prizes!

What’s happening later?
The Ball at Glebe Town Hall finishes at 11pm, but if you’re keen to kick on and continue the party, we plan to head out for drinks at a nearby pub.

Dress code:
It’s a Ball, let’s dress up! Whatever makes you feel fancy. You can go full vintage, or just a touch of swing; formal or not. Dress to the nines, the eights, the sevens or even the sixes. Whichever way you go, here’s your chance to leave the jeans and t-shirts at home and make a bit of an effort.
Add a touch of colour to represent your venue (see below).
And our roving photographer may snap you in your sartorial splendour.
The number one thing is to have comfy shoes to dance in.
Swing dancing is hot hot hot! … not a bad idea to bring a change of clothes for later in the evening.

Colours or “How Do I Find Friends From My Venue?”:
Whether you choose to add a touch of your chosen colour to your outfit (a ribbon, a tie, a flower in your hair or buttonhole) or go the whole hog and deck yourself out head to toe, sporting your venue’s colour makes it easy for venue regulars to find each other, and gives you a talking point when you meet a stranger-soon-to-be-friend from the other side of town.
Wear your venue colours with pride!
Each venue will have a table, decorated with it’s special colour. So you’ll be able to find your friends and park your gear there.

Information for Ticket Holders!
If you’ve been super organised and pre-paid your ticket to the Ball, well done. You’re going to have a ball … literally!
Remember, there are no paper tickets for you to collect. Instead, your name will be on our VIP door list. Just walk in, say hi to our friendly door peeps and they will cross you off the pre-paid list before you enter the Ball. If you have booked your tickets in a group, then your tickets will be under the name of the person who booked/paid for them. Make sure you know what name your ticket will be under before you turn up, just to avoid any confusion at the door.

Note that pre-paid entry is general admission and does not guarantee a seat or place at a table. It is simply an entry payment. There should be plenty of seats but of course we sacrifice the floor space for the dancing, so if you can’t find a chair sit on a knee and make a new friend. If there is a chair free, please make use of it.

Code of Conduct
Never been to a Ball before, or need a refresher on minding your manners? Check out the Swing Patrol Code of Conduct, and use good common sense.

We love our Events Crew! They make magic happen and are essential to the smooth running of our events.
