Justine Kinkade
Justine was one of the original Sydney students who shyly (yeah, right) walked through the doors of our first Sydney class in 2003. "...I'd been looking for a dance I could learn that wasn't naff and didn't require a leotard or a frilly skirt. Plus I wanted to meet some new friends and not spend a fortune....". Within a few weeks the bug had
bitten and Justine was attending social dances, workshops and soaking up video clips from the internet.
Justine has enjoyed a non-professional background in musical theatre and also sang with an acapella choir for 5 years. Her Dad also encouraged in her a love of jazz and swing music (he was a jazz drummer) and many weekends were spent sitting on the lounge room floor drumming and scatting to old jazz favs - "...its so exciting to be able to now dance to the music I've always loved. My Mum used to say I was born in the wrong era..."
- Socialising! Without doubt this is my favourite thing! There's always a house party, a picnic, an outdoor dancing gig or an event to go to. The classes are friendly and accessible, you meet SOOOOOO many lovely people and immediately you all have one thing in common to chat about - the dance!
- Herrang Dance Camp, Sweden - becoming totally absorbed in the dance, the music and the people.
- Competing at Sydney Jitterbug Championships - its always a blast seeing so many friends and peers on the dancefloor giving it some stick and I love that great feeling of camaraderie that exists between competitors and the loud, supportive audience. Truly mind blowing.
