Sydney - Meet the Scene Ball 2012
Join us at the stunning Balmain Town Hall on May 19 for our annual Meet the Scene Ball.
This is a fabulous night where the swing dance community comes together to meet, mingle and dance. It's a chance for newer dancers to experience the thrill of a swing ball and for dancers all over Sydney to celebrate this thing called swing!
Welcome! This legendary event brings together the Sydney swing community and celebrates all our newer dancers who’ve recently caught the jitterbug!

* A complimentary swing lesson to kick off the night so bring your friends!
* The lush swinging sounds of the Brad Child Quartet
* Snowballs to get everyone dancing…and maybe even a jam session!
* Workshops during the day; Dancing all through the night!
* The much-loved swing strolls. Do the Shim Sham shimmy, rev into a Group Charleston, bust out the Big Apple and throw down a Tranky doo or two!

You may be filled with excited anticipation or find yourself with ‘first swing ball’ nerves. Just relax and let the night unfold. If you’re worried that you do not know many people, remember everyone is in this situation. With so many new people in the scene, even the dancers of old do not know many people. The reason we have this much-loved event is so you can get to meet other dancers! By the end of the night, you’ll certainly have made a friend…or many!

We’ve found that a fun thing to do at big events is to colour code the venues so you can easily find the buddies who you learn with each week. It doesn't mean you have to kit yourself out head to toe, you can simply add a "touch of colour” if you wish.

We love our volunteers! They make magic happen and are essential to the smooth running of our events. It makes us feel all gooshy inside when we think about how much they do. If you would like to save some dollars by helping out at the Meet the Scene Ball, we'd like to hear from you!
In exchange for volunteering on the night, you’ll get FREE entry and good swing karma. If you are interested in volunteering at the Meet the Scene Ball, please send an email to Kerryn at kerryn.swingpatrol@gmail.com.
i. What’s the deal with tickets?
There are no paper tickets for you to collect. Your name will be on our door list. Just walk in, say hi to our friendly door peeps and they will cross you off the pre-paid list before you enter the ball. If you have booked your tickets in a group, then your tickets will be under the name of the person who booked/paid for them. Make sure you know what name your ticket will be under before you turn up, just to avoid any confusion at the door.
ii. Is there seating available?
There will be some tables around the venue but they are not reserved or regarded as permanent seating for anyone throughout the night. They are used to help orientate you to your venue and mates but hopefully you’ll be up on the dance floor for most of the night!
iii. What do I wear?
Comfy shoes so you can dance all night long! It’s a good idea to keep a pair of trainers in your bag for later! Quite a few people like to dress up and so you’ll see swirly skirts, pencil skirts, vintage dresses, 30’s style blouses, zoot suits, baggy pants, braces, vests, and the odd fedora hat. There will also be lots of people not so dressed up wearing contemporary smart casual clothing or casual retro gear. Many folks also bring a change of clothes for later in the night or the after party.
