Coming up on Wed 15 Sep:

  • Level 1 (6:30pm): Week 1 (of 4) of Eight Beat (Lindy Hop) (No experience needed, start anytime)
  • Level 2 (7:45pm): Week 1 (of 4) of cool stuff with special guest teacher, Trish Carruthers! (we can advise whether you're ready to move to level 2)

 

On Wed 8 Sep we learnt the following in Level 1 and Level 2:

Level 1 - Six Beat (week 3 of 3)

  • Six Beat Basic in Closed
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • In closed position
  • Six Beat in Open
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • In open position
  • Bring into Closed
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • Leads, offer the "arm of welcome" on 3-4
    • End in closed position
  • Tuck Turn
    • Rock step, stop sign for 3-4, guide follow under arm for 5-6
    • End in open position
  • Inside Turn to Closed
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • From open position
    • Leads, read your watch on 3-4 (hand in front of follow's face)
    • End in closed position
  • Jig Walks in Open with a Kick-Up
    • Let go of partner’s hand on 1-2 rock-step (not the back connection)
    • Pump in towards our partner on 3-4, land straight, pump out away from our partner on 5-6, land straight
    • Pump in, pump out, offer the hand and swing kick on 5-6
    • End in closed position ready for six beat basic in closed
  • Jig Walks in Closed with a Kick-Up
    • Same as Jig Walks in Open but don't let go of partner's hand
    • Leads: lead the swing kick by pulling follow's hand towards you on the swing kick
  • Koala Dip
    • Rock step 1-2
    • Pump land 3-4, throw follow’s right arm around your left shoulder and put your right hand around her left waist
    • Land left foot on 4 prepared to squat for 5-6
    • Lower into squat position (straight back leads) on 5-6 with follow holding her own weight

Level 2 - Spice up your Charleston (Week 2 of 2)

  • Kick Throughs
    • Offer the hand
    • Right hand to her left hip
    • Push her hip on 7
    • Kick land with inside foot on 7-8
    • Don’t let go of her hand
  • Layouts
    • Offer the hand
    • Right hand to her left hip
    • Push her hip on 7 with more force than a Kick Through and also using the compression in the leading hand so that she moves far enough away into a layout position
    • Don’t let go of her hand
  • Peel Off (16 beat move)
    • Prepare on 7-8 to push her in a clockwise rotation
    • Lead and follow peel off: leads counter clockwise, follows clockwise for 2 x 360 degrees (casual turns)
    • Back into side-by-side
  • Russian Kicks
    • Switch weight on 5 (fused joints!) + kick outside foot forward
    • Russian kick on 6 & 7 (inside leg then outside leg)
    • Pause on 8 with outside leg extended
  • Tassie Devil
    • Offer the hand
    • Right hand to her left hip
    • Prepare on 5
    • Down on 6 with weight on front foot
    • Lead an outside spin turn on 7-8 back to closed
  • Chug Chug (16 beat move)
    • Chug forward on outside foot on 5-6, inside foot on 7-8, etc.
    • Pause on 7-8 of second set of 8 ready to rock step on 1
