Week 2 (of 3) Six Beat in Level 1 & Gangster's Ball Preparation in Level 2

Gangster's Ball Sat 4 Sep - We hope to see you there! Meet us for drinks at The Marble Bar (Hilton Hotel) from 6:30pm

 

Coming up on Wed 8 Sep:

  • Level 1 (6:30pm): Week 3 (of 3) of Six Beat (No experience needed, start anytime)
  • Level 2 (7:45pm): Week 2 (of 2) of Spice up your Charleston! (Chris and Sass can advise whether you're ready to move to level 2)

 

On Wed 1 Sep we learnt the following in Level 1 and Level 2:

Level 1 - Six Beat (week 2 of 3)

  • Six Beat Basic in Closed
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • In closed position
  • Six Beat Send Out
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • Let go of the follow's right hand on 3-4
    • She drifts away on 5-6 to open position
  • Six Beat in Open
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • In open position
  • Bring into Closed
    • Rock step, pump land, pump land
    • Leads, offer the "arm of welcome" on 3-4
    • End in closed position
  • Free Turn
    • Compression (1-2)
    • Extra rotation on 3-4
    • Turn (5-6) after letting go
  • Two Hand Basket
    • Start from 2 hand hold
    • Rock step on 1-2
    • Leads read your watch on 3-4
    • Have her in close cuddle on your right side on 5-6
  • Exit from Two Hand Basket
    • Rotational rock step on 1-2
    • Pump land on 3-4
    • Pop her out of cuddle hold using inside of right arm on 5-6
    • End up holding follow’s left hand in your right
  • Lasso Move
    • Rock step on 1-2
    • Horizontal stop sign with left hand down low on 3-4, compression
    • Spin follow clockwise on 5-6 with your right hand, end ready to go again
  • Exit from above move
    • Rock step on 1-2 – lead holding follow’s left hand in his right
    • Stop sign with left hand up high on 3-4, compression
    • Turn follow on 5-6 using left hand only

Level 2 - Gangster's Ball Preparation! (week 1 of 1)

  • Three Wall
    • Keep follow in tight on 3-4 (hit wall 1)
    • Step on 5 as per normal but don’t let go and keep her close (wall 2 on 6)
    • Step on 7 as per normal but don’t let go and keep her close (wall 3 on 7)
    • 9-12 is equivalent to 5-8 footwork in 8 beat
    • 1, 2, 3 & 4, 5-6, 5-6, 7 & 8
  • Swing out but don't let her go
    • Don't let go on 5
    • Use 5-8 to move somewhere else on the floor
    • End on closed
  • Block step
    • She goes: swing her out from closed in front of you in anti-clockwise direction
    • Don't let go on 5, bring back on 6, 7 & 8
    • He goes: swing her out from closed in normal direction
    • Don't let go on 5, bring back on 6, 7 & 8
    • Standard 8 beat footwork
  • Eight Beat Entry into Close Hold
    • 1-4 normal
    • Change grip to ballroom grip on 5
    • Step, step, step, step in a circle on 5-8 bringing the follow into close hold
    • Dance in close hold
    • Don't rock shoulders leads!
    • Bring other foot across next to the one that just moved to ensure complete weight transfer during close hold dancing
    • Follows, lag slightly behind the lead to feel the lead
    • Exit with a swing-out
