W elcome to all our new dancers ... dance is a fantastic way to meet new people, exercise and have fun and we are glad to be joining you on your dance journey. In this section of the Swing Patrol Website here you will find news and information particular to Newtown and diary notes of what we taught in class, so you could print out these pages and keep a diary of everything that you've learnt. Also when ever possible we will maintain a weekly video diary of what we taught that week. So if you like what you see then come along to Newtown. The notes and video diary get updated weekly so keep checking every week.

6th September: Learn to Charleston #3
In our Level 1 class we will be teaching the core step of Swing Dancing known as "The Charleston".

This will be a 3 week course, starting with basics and then moving into other patterns, showing you how to combine with other basic Swing patterns.

Level 1
L1 Class Summary
Third week of Lindy Hop Basics
We continue with week 3 of our 8 beat basics course, doing the same moves from week 1, adding in the full footwork.

• Rhythm in Closed
• Rhythm Circle
• Swing Out (From closed)
• The Swing Out
• The Circle

Level 2
L2 Class Summary
The theme of this class is to do moves that flow together.

Thinks that help keep the flow:
• Pulse
• Consistent footwork
• Deceleration (In a direction change)

The Moves:
• Swing Out (Texas + Leads into prominade)
• Over the head follow wrap
• Swing Out (Outside Turn) • Inside Turns to Closed

Level 3
L3 Class Summary
** DIP-O-WEEK **
The Leg flick into tango Dip

In this class we had a series of Surprise turns for you. This required smooth leading from the leaders and good turning technique from the follower. We showed you how to do both.

The Moves
• B-Side Inside roll with a B-Side Release.
• Behind Catch w Spin (12 counts)

2nd September: Swing Social Dance at the Exchange
With the completion of our first Balboa Basics course we'd like to celebrate with dancing! So come along and dance the night away, we'll play a mix of swing tunes and a fun time is guaranteed.

Private Lessons with Derek and Trish.
If you want to speed up your learning or put the finishing touch on your dancing then why not consider a private lesson with Derek or Trish (or both).

Private lessons cost $60 per teacher or $80 for both (Great for couples learning).
