It's all about Neil Armstrong..... and chocolate!
Balmain (Unity Hall Hotel)
29 Jul 2010
Thanks for making it to Balmain Swing Patrol this week despite the heavy down pour! We had a great night full of charleston, Pride and Prejudice, Mr Darcy, and Blues!!
We have started our 'monthly mixed level class' which is open to anyone and everyone so spread the word:-) It will be something a little different each month- from Blues to Shag, to solo Jazz routines.
Huge thanks to Robin and Suz for doing the door at Balmain this year so far.. Farewell and fantastic overseas trip to Robin for the next nearly 5months!! How exciting!!:-)
Tandem charleston: basic- left rock step kick step, right kick and kick step.
Girl's turn (Leads turn her left after the rock step and around 360degrees back to tandem)
Both turn (Leads turn her left while turning yourself left! both turn 360degrees and back to tandem)
The 'Pride of Jono!' move- made especially for you (man we are coming up with some good ones lately!!:-)
Rock step Leads move up beside your follow in the 'pride of erin' position on your kick land (so you are now side by side), then big swing kick, and slide back together (Pride of Jono style- whilst thinking of Mr Darcy:-)
Basic in Pride of Jono side by side position
Both turn to get out of side by side and back into tandem (leads 'wind her up' a little to the right before leading her to turn)
AWESOME!!! loved your energy tonight thanks! and sweet dreams of Mr Darcy tonight:-)
Level 2: Mixed level Blues Class
We taught some blues fundamentals tonight.
Using the 'step step' as our 'basic'..
* Prep down to move your body up for each step.
* Flow with the music- take up the 'space' the slow music leaves you.
* Step step side to side, forward and backwards or in a circle
* Follows really want to 'delay' and let the leads lead you to step- make sure you are connected and 'listening'..
* Leads be strong/confident with your leads.
* Turnstile turns- Leads do extra prep and turn your body whilst leading her to turn - keep the step step rhythm you started with until you find him again.
* Changing tempo- slow, slow, quick quick quick quick, slow, slow.
And last but not least- Think Neil Armstrong walking on the moon- fill out your movement and use your whole body, and Chocolate- savour each bite (and movement) as much as you can.. use the slowness of the music to your advantage and savour that chocolate! Oh yeah!!!!
Thanks for coming with us on a bit of a Blues Journey..
Next week we are starting 8 beat in level 1 and also doing 8 beat in level 2.. We are going all out! (will Pride and Prejudice make another appearance next week??? you will have to come to find out!!!)
