W elcome to all our new dancers ... dance is a fantastic way to meet new people, exercise and have fun and we are glad to be joining you on your dance journey. In this section of the Swing Patrol Website here you will find news and information particular to Newtown and diary notes of what we taught in class, so you could print out these pages and keep a diary of everything that you've learnt. Also when ever possible we will maintain a weekly video diary of what we taught that week. So if you like what you see then come along to Newtown. The notes and video diary get updated weekly so keep checking every week.

Level 1 - 8 Beat Basic - Wk 3of4
L1 Class Summary
The Class
In this class we will complete the core move of the lindy hop 'The Lindy SwingOut'.
The footwork: step-step, triple-step, step-step, triple-step

Rhythm Circle
notes: You can do the footwork while moving in a circle.
Tip: Use rock step to break up circle. Dance together around the 'pole'

Swing Out
notes: Using the circular momentum Leads release the follower out on count 5.
footwork: step-step, triple-step, step-step, triple-step


Circle
notes: Starting in open we finish together in closed
Tip\Styling: Leads catch follows shoulder blade on count 3. Remember to 'Catch the EGG'

Lindy Basic !!!
notes: The 'CORE-STEP' of Swing Dancing.
Tip\Styling: Follows try to make each move a 'pass-by'. Leads remember to 'catch-and-releaase'



Level 2 - Putting JAZZ into your Lindy
L2 Class Summary
The Class
Lindy hop is a 'Jazz dance' and we all learn different solo jazz dances (Big Apple, Shim Sham and Others), so it's fun to put these jazz steps into your dancing.

The Jazz Steps.

The Suzie-Q
Notes: Classic stepping Jazz step with flexed legs and empasis on the kness.
Tip: Setup the 'toes turned in' suzie-q step on 8.

Shortie George
Notes: Classic stepping Jazz step with flexed legs and empasis on the kness.
Tip: Setup the 'Shorty George' with kick on 8.

Apple Jacks
Notes: A fast footwork step that is complicated but lots of fun.
Tip: Twist the '&' and step the count.



Level 3 - Advanced Frame Dynamics Prt II
L3 Class Summary
Closed Leading of Syncopation's

The Class
Closed leading is when the leader uses frame intensity to control the follows footwork. Mastering this will allow you to lead syncopated footwork patterns and advanced musicality.

Rhythm Skills
3 Skill patterns to learn and practice
A) Single Rhythm (Open / Closed)
B) 1x Triple Rhythm (Open / Closed)
C) Continious Triple Rhythm (Open / Closed)


Putting syncopation into steps.

Tuck Turn to Open
Leading a syncopation** on the RS.
Tuck Turn 8 count
Tuck Turn 6 count
Tuck Turn 4 count **
