2010 - I've gotta feelin', that tonights gonna be a good night...
Balmain (Unity Hall Hotel)
10 Feb 2010
Welcome to the new dancers who started at Balmain this week! It was also really lovely to welcome back a few people we havent seen in a while.
You may not realise it but partner dancing is a skill for life – think of all the weddings you’ll attend as a guest where you’ll be able to dance to the band or those romantic situations that can only be improved by some close-up dancing. Plus dancing encourages confidence so on Friday nights you’ll no longer be propping up the bar…instead you’ll be on the dance floor!
So what went down in this week’s class?
Level 1
Side x Side
Review of jig walks with kick up
Double pumps
Follows: in front on count 1
Leads: behind on count 5
Level 2
Swingout
Texas Tommy (open to open)
Then following on from our theme last week of taking a move you know and changing the ending…
Texas Tommy (from open to closed)
Sugar Push
Block Turn using Sugar Push entry
As everyone discovered, the Sugar Push is one of those moves that might appear easy to execute but is in fact much harder to make it actually feel good. It should feel very fluid with a gradual compression and no lilt to the side for the leads.
Swing Pit is on this Friday and there'll be plenty of friendly faces there so if you’re in the neighbourhood, come on down to Newtown for some social dancing – details are in the SP newsletter. I'll see you there!
