Lindy Hop in 1, Musicality in 2!

Broadway (202 Broadway)
06 Jan 2010

Welcome to the summer schedule for 202 Broadway!

Thanks for dropping in to see what Broadway has to offer throughout January, 2010.

Wanting to step up to level 2 in the new year?

Wanting to understand your Lindy Hop a bit better?

Then join us at Broadway for the Level 1 class as we will be teaching Lindy Hop from the Top. From the basic Swingout, Circle, Swingout from Closed and Underarm Turns, you will be triple stepping your way around in no time and ready to bust out your new moves at Swing Pit.

Week 1 you will learn the foot rhythms, and basic style of what an 8 beat Lindy basic looks like.

This week in class we started with our basic rhythm. step, step, step, and step... counted, 1, 2 ,3, & 4,   5, 6, 7, & 8.

The guys started with a back step on their left foot as you lead the lady in, then you replaced weight to your right foot. Then as we turned right, we stepped 3, & 4. We catch the follow into our arms on 3 and draw her around us into the 5 count sending her to the side. We release our right arm away from her on the 6 count and then just step under ourselves for 7, & 8.

The follows start with a small step forward if lead forward, then stepping forward into 2. with a slight turn to your right shoulder (clockwise) on 3, & 4. By this time you have connected with the lead with your  left hand and forearm gently resting on the leads arm. The lead sends you around on 5 and then you step 6, 7, & 8 slightly back as the lead has determined through the energy he uses.

Week 2 will reinforce week one and we will introduce you to the more technical aspects of Lead and follow using a basic turn in your 8 beat Lindy.

Week 3 we will introduce the Circle and Swingout from Closed.

Week 4 is pulling all you have learned over the past 4 weeks into a neat little package of a class to show you what you have accomplished the past 4 weeks.

Want More?

If you feel your Lindy Hop is pretty comfortable, then join us in Level 2 to Mess with your Musicality. Rather than an actual class in learning the musicality of Swing, we will be teaching you fun, cheeky and at times corny moves to add in when you hear those breaks coming, or those accentuations in the beats.

Starting with a basic lesson in music structure, we will explore the joys of hitting breaks and how to work on hearing them coming in the music. Starting with a few zany moves, we will use these to work on reading the music more effectively. From there we will add in more silly moves including dips, hops, slips and breaks that will surely bring out the accentuations of swing music.

Week 1: Moves to Emphasize your the music.

Week 2: Moves to mess with the music.

Week 3: Musical Styling Steps.

Week 4: Exploring the moods of music.

This is what its all about folks. Its what makes swing so fun! Its those bits and pieces between Lindy's that put the life and creativity into the dance.
